Photography Workshops & Tours
Thank you for visiting AJ Harrison Photography & Workshops! After leading guided bald eagle photography workshops in the lower 48 states for many years, AJ decided to combine the skills he learned over a 20-year career as a corporate trainer and director to provide comprehensive instruction to photographers in a workshop setting. While his main objective is to put each client into position to capture incredible photos, his secondary focus is to bring each photographer’s skill set to a higher level. Whether you want to put yourself in the best spot to capture the mysterious and allusive great grey owl or the fierce and mighty american bald eagle, our workshops will provide incredible opportunities.
Incredible Locations. Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunities
The Kenai Peninsula near Homer, Alaska provides photographers several unique opportunities to photograph bald eagles at close range as well as snatching fish from the scenic Kachemak Bay. LeClaire, Iowa is a phenomenal spot to capture images of the species as well! But bald eagle photography workshops aren’t our only focus. Interested in the great grey or snowy owl? Our tour in Duluth, Minnesota is one of the best locations in the world to find both!
In 2020, we’ll return to Iceland to host a landscape photography workshop in the land of fire and ice! Are brown bears your thing? We are excited to announce a brand new workshop that will put our clients in position to capture stunning images of the brown bears in Canada. We will also be adding a third bald eagle photography tour in Homer, Alaska in the near future.
yOU DESERVE AN ADVENTURE.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Husband, stepdad, dad and photographer. While he is admittedly still trying to figure out the first three, AJ’s professional photographic roots go back more than 20 years when shot for a small newspaper in the Midwest. He soon applied this skill set to portraiture, working for a studio near Galena, IL. After spending the next two decades of his career as a corporate trainer and director, AJ decided to pursue a career in photography, his first love. An avid nature lover and conservationist, he never completely left the world of photography, investing close to 30 years on perfecting his photographic technique. His award-winning work has been recognized by publications such as National Geographic, Popular Photography, Forbes Magazine and the National Wildlife Federation. One of his photographs went viral in 2016 with over 8 million views.
In 2017, AJ published his first book, titled The Bald Eagle Book for Kids, which he created to be as visually appealing to adults as it is educational for children. He is currently working on two additional books that are scheduled to be published in 2019.
AJ lives with his wife, Brooke, and their five children in eastern Iowa.
