Reported to be the largest gathering of bald eagles in the world, the Chilkat provides an excellent opportunity to photograph their behavior in their natural setting.
GREAT GREY OWLS | DULUTH, MINNESOTA
The fall migration provides the best opportunity to capture incredible photographs of the mysterious and illusive great grey owl. As in years past, we will be scouting for both great grey and snowy owls prior to the trip and hope to give everyone a chance to add both to their portfolios. While rare, the Duluth area is one of the best in North America for photographing these rare species of owls.
BALD EAGLE MIGRATION | IOWA
Bald eagle photography is challenging, especially in the Lower 48 where they prove to be extremely fearful of humans. Iowa might be one of the “fly over states”, what it lacks in pro sports teams and large cities, it more than makes up for it by providing some of the best opportunities to photograph bald eagles in their natural setting. It’s also one of the best locations to witness them eating while in flight, as they devour small fish in midair. While the best locations can change from week to week, we have scouted the best locations for 20+ years to help maximize photo ops.
BALD EAGLES OF KENAI | HOMER, ALASKA
Winter is a great time to visit Homer for bald eagle photography. Many of the portraits you’ve seen of bald eagles were shot in this area of Alaska. While there are usually ample opportunities to get close to some of Jean Keene’s eagles to snap closeups, the fishing shots alone make the trip to Alaska a memorable one. The weather is more moderate than other parts of Alaska due to the fact that Homer is positioned nicely between Kachemak Bay and the Cook Inlet. Travel costs are diminished due to the fact that tourist season peaks in the summer.
